Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has begun installing a new generation of smart camera systems in shopping malls and commercial complexes, which marks a major expansion of the country’s public-safety infrastructure.

The upgraded technology is designed to identify wanted individuals in real time by linking directly to a centralised database, allowing security teams to verify identities and respond within seconds.

A security source confirmed to local outlets that the cameras are being positioned in high-traffic zones inside residential and commercial developments, effectively creating digital security checkpoints. The camera system provides access to detailed records of individuals sought in a range of cases, enabling continuous monitoring and faster intervention when a threat is detected.

Officials say the initiative reflects Kuwait’s broader push to modernise law-enforcement tools and tighten security procedures nationwide. The rollout follows a series of measures introduced this year to reinforce public order, including intensified residency checks and increased surveillance at border points.

The Ministry’s tougher enforcement drive is also easy to see in its latest deportation figures. Between 1 January and 10 November 2025, approximately 34,143 expatriates were removed from the country for violations ranging from residency breaches to criminal and behavioural offences.

Security sources have revealed to the media that the numbers show the region’s ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and ensure compliance with Kuwait’s legal and administrative regulations.

However, authorities maintain that both the deployment of smart surveillance systems and the stepped-up enforcement actions form part of a unified strategy to safeguard communities and strengthen internal security across the country.
